Yoga Equipment

Yoga is a form of exercise that can be practiced without any props or special equipment. However sometimes, there is a need of using some form of yoga equipment to do yoga. Yoga equipment can be divided into two categories; the first being basic equipment.

Basic yoga equipment comprises of equipment like mats, blankets and eye bags. Then the second type of yoga equipment that includes supportive tools like belts, blocks and bolsters and even specialized tools that provide support for the designs they were designed for.

Yoga mats are a part of yoga equipment; however this is not an essential piece of equipment as a yoga mat can also be substituted by a large towel or cotton rug that does not slip. The most important point to consider when choosing the right yoga mat will be one that helps with your grip as you do the different asanaas of yoga. Yoga mats are easier to find than a towel or rug; but if funds are limited, then you may as well use a towel or rug. Yoga mats are relatively cheap, with the sticky mats being the cheapest. These are yoga mats that are of a higher quality synthetic mat that should be hand washed occasionally.

Bolsters are a type of yoga equipment that are great for some floor poses, and offer support to the back. They are the best choice when in standing poses that involve twists, and are useful to students who it difficult to reach the ground. Another piece of yoga equipment is a belt that is used in various poses that include forward bends and other poses that keeps the arms in the correct alignment. These types of yoga equipment are not expensive and worth having as they help you spend lots of time in a particular pose.

The most expensive form of yoga equipment may be the specialized props that are usually used in headstands and backbends. They are not an important form of yoga equipment, but offers benefits that are very much worth the costs you put in them. Straps are another form of yoga equipment that is useful for bound poses where you will have to hold on to parts of the body that you find difficult to reach.

Some people also buy yoga DVDs as a form of yoga equipment. This is the option people who cannot attend regular yoga classes opt for and for those people who think that they don’t actually need the guidance of a yoga instructor anymore. And if you happen to have a yoga store nearby, you can also buy your yoga equipment in the form of yoga kits that are available.

These yoga kits usually have all the necessary yoga gear that includes one or two blocks, a mat and sometimes video or flash cards of different poses. So if you are a novice in yoga, and need a start in yoga, the yoga kit with this yoga equipment is a must buy for you.
