Reflexology isn’t just a foot rub. Contrary to what many spa-goers and new clients think there is more to this wonderful treatment. A natural healing art, based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands which correspond to every part of the body. By stimulating and applying pressure to the feet or hands, you are increasing circulation and promoting specific bodily and muscular functions. When you receive reflexology your whole body can react because there is something recognized by the foot with a full range of sensors just like the fight or flight system that the body uses. Both hands and feet are more sensitive than most people think, the hands and the feet detect pressure, movement and weight distribution . They need a little TLC too!
One idea stemmed from Reflexology is that the body has an energy field and that when it is blocked it can result in illness. Although there hasn’t been any scientific proof of the effects of Reflexology, it has been suggested that stimulation of the foot and nerves can unblock and elevate the flow of endorphins which are natural pain killers. Just a few of the reasons some people have Reflexology are : Relaxation, anxiety, chronic lower back pain, ear disorders, foot edema, irritable bowel syndrome and even relief from premenstrual syndrome.
Different reactions can happen when you have Refelxology, because of the direct pressure you may feel like you are walking on clouds, you could feel nauseas or even get headaches. Depending on how toxic your body is will depend on what result you may feel. It is very important to rest your feet and to drink a lot of water afterwards to help to flush out any toxic build up your body may have.
In a session of Reflexology you should find that your therapist first cleans your feet, inspects them for any marks or abnormalities of bone structure and aligns them in the correct position.
Most Reflexology sessions are either 30 minutes or 60 minutes and may include a foot soak and or exfoliation. Don’t be afraid of reflexology or be concerned that it is just a foot rub, try your first session today and put your best foot forward!
